Ginger Rogers article in People

I've never seen/read this before - I just discovered it! But it is a nice little article (dated 08 May 1995) with cute pictures, and it makes Ginger seem like one of the most wonderful people I've never met.

...this ROCKS! I remember reading People back when I was growing up (my mom bought it pretty consistently...) - probably did not read this article, since it was at her death in 1995 (I was courting my future bride at the time...in fact, I remember I was at her apartment, and we were watching the news when they reported that Ginger had died...kinda weird I remember that, but then again, I guess it is just another cog in the Gingerology machine...)
Anyway, thanks, Lauren!!!

That is a lovely tribute. Each one of these that I read gives a further insight into Ginger the person, and I like what I see. Did you ever read the NY Times obituary written right after her death?

I love Arlene Croce's quote that Ginger "danced with love, with pride in the beauty of an illusion -- and with one of the MOST ELEGANT DANCER'S BODIES IMAGINABLE." (I capitalized the last part for emphasis.)

Thanks for sharing this!

I had never seen this article either...so bittersweet. I was in college in 1995 and I distinctly remember sitting on the couch watching the news when they reported her death. I believe I started crying and my fiance came out to see what in the world was wrong.

It was sad...at the time, I was still an 'unwashed heathen' (i.e., non-Gingerologist), but I did like her pretty well - just a 'casual' fan...I DID cut out the article from the paper about her death, and stuck it in the last pages of my Ginger:MyStory book, which I had bought not that long before she died, strangely enough.
Gingerella - sound like we were engaged at around the same time! mind my asking when you got hitched? Our date is June 15, 1996...got engaged Dec 24, 1995...

PS...KG - thanks for the NY Times obit...sad to read, but really 'required reading' for G-ologists...

Kerrie - Thank you! I remember that quote. Where is my book by her? It's GOOD.

Gingerella - I was very little when she died, so that I didn't even know who she was. And my mother pretty much hates her so I couldn't really learn about her at the time.

Huey - Wait so what cinched it for you that you became such a Ginger super-fan?
How cute you got engaged on Christmas Eve?

Well, you know, not sure when I became the 'StarkRavingMad' VKMfan...honestly, it has been in the past year or so, and was fueled in no small part by all the cool blogs I discovered regarding her! The more info and pix you find, the more 'hooked' you get... and, it started last year when I purchased the Ginger/Fred box, primarily to watch with my daughter who is a dancer - thought it would be cool to show her the 'masters'...and of course, I was a 'casual' VKMfan from just seeing a movie of hers every now and then, and hearing my mom talk about her. Anyway, hope that explains it...

Yes, I popped the question on Christmas Eve...a funny (in retrospect, anyway) about that...I was going to stop by her folks house the night before, to basically ask for her hand...but I became 'violently ill' - was er, upchucking - thought it was a stomach bug, but was really nerves... anyway, didn't get to her folks that night, but did get it together enough to propose on Christmas Eve...but was anxious about not getting the 'approval' deal...but after the story was told, all was ok, I guess...

Aww, you were nervous! How cute! But rough on your stomach. So you've been married for a while! Congrats!
